I haven’t posted in a while. There are a million excuses I can give (I just got a puppy!) but basically I’m still getting used to the thought of writing and having others read it. I am very selfconscious of my writing and don’t like people reading it. But I have to get over it and what better way then for a bunch of strangers right? I also have so many thoughts and feels that I never know what to write. So I’ll start off small…
What am I reading?
I am on page 146 of Tahereh Mafi’s Unravel Me, the sequel to Shatter Me. And so far so good!
Recently Story Crush posted about YA relationships and who do you ‘ship’? I’m barely even halfway through Unravel Me so as of right now I ‘ship’ Juliette and Adam. But for myself I ship Myself and Kenji. Kenji’s so full of himself and tells it like it is. Some of my favorite Kenji-isms so far…
“If I lower my voice, I won’t be able to hear myself speak. And that is my favorite part.”
“As far as I can tell, you’ve got food in your mouth and clothes on your back and a place to pee in peace whenever you feel like it. Those aren’t problems. That’s called living like a king. And I’d appreciate it if you’d grow the hell up and stop walking around like the world crapped on your only roll of toilet paper. Because it’s stupid.”
Wrapping this up because I keep sneaking in reading in between writing sentences. Here’s a pic of my new puppy, Lady Gwendolyn Louise, aka Lady Gwen or Lady G.
I’ve been stuck in a bit of a reading rut lately. This usually happens to me when I read a lot of books in a short period of time, mostly in the same genre. I just run out of book energy. Changing genres usually works to pull me out. The only thing that seems to help with this most recent rut is to keep reading books of the same genre.
My genre of choice as of late is YA Fantasy and Adventure. At first I tried to switch to some adult books, some mystery and a little romance. Even some YA Historical fiction. It took me days, even weeks to finish a book if I even finished it all. The author was not to blame the books were actually pretty good, it’s me I’m in a rut. I know, I sound like a bad breakup line, it’s not you it’s me.
The light at the end of this reading rut tunnel seemed to be more fantasy and adventure. I think I’m finally pulling out of it. The fantasy and adventures take you to a new world to escape your own. The literary works that have seen me through this hard time are Legend by Marie Lu, and so far the first 58 pages of Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me?
Legend is a must read. Working in a bookstore I make a lot of reading recommendations. Books like the Hunger Games trilogy are a tough act to follow so its might job to help young readers fill that void. The main characters, June and and Day meet when June sets out to track down her brother’s killer. A cat and mouse chase ensues and June must decide whether she truly believes Day is a murderer or if he was framed. Action packed with romance thrown in makes this a book that I can recommend for boys and girls. I’ve already preordered the sequel, Prodigy.
As for Shatter Me I only started this afternoon but I’m hooked. I’ll let you know soon what I think of the remaining 280 pages.
If fantasy and adventure is what is going to keep me out of that rut, then I’m lining them up in my to be read (TBR) pile.
Its a new year, and hey why not start a blog? My mom might be the only person who ever reads it but this year I’m trying new things. So here’s to a new blog where I’ll pen (or type I guess) my rants, rambles and reviews. Check back for the books I’m reading, the series I watching on Netflix, the things I like or hate right now or what I think about the latest Kim K news. I’ll try to limit the number of funny cat videos I post but I can’t promise anythingThis is the Spill by JILL.
Here are my 2013 Resolutions…
1. Try new things, step out of my comfort zone.
2. Read at least 6 books a month. That’s 72 books a year. Last year my goal was 52 a year and I reached it in like June. But I’m in a little reader’s rut so I’m not in a place to set my goal real high right now.
3. And of course, the obligatory eat healthy, go to the gym and get in shape New Year’s resolution.
